Wishing you and yours a safe and celebratory Memorial Day.
Collaborative Community Service
This week, members of the City of Atlanta’s Office of the City Solicitor proudly volunteered alongside the dedicated recruits of the during two impactful community food drives hosted by City Councilman at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church and City Councilwoman at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.
Together, we helped distribute food and essential resources to Atlanta families while strengthening the spirit of service and community partnership that keeps our city moving forward.
According to Feeding America, more than 1 in 9 people across the United States experience food insecurity; a reminder that community support efforts like these continue to matter every single day.
We are grateful to stand beside leaders, volunteers, faith organizations, and first responders who remain committed to serving the people of Atlanta with compassion, dignity, and action.

Let's talk about something most people don't know exists. 🧠⚖️
Mental illness is not a crime.
But in America, our jails have quietly become the largest mental health facilities in the country. According to SAMHSA, 44% of people in U.S. jails have a mental illness; more than four times the rate in the general population. And yet, two-thirds of incarcerated people with mental illness receive no treatment at all while behind bars.
The City of Atlanta Office of the City Solicitor refuses to accept that as the standard.
In partnership with Fulton County and the City of Atlanta, our Mental Health Program works to redirect individuals living with mental health conditions away from the criminal justice system and toward the actual care and support they need. Because prosecution without treatment doesn't solve anything. It just delays the next crisis.
The data backs it up: mental health diversion programs reduce rearrests by 45% (NIJ) and save between $4 and $12 for every $1 invested compared to incarceration. This is smarter justice. More compassionate justice. And it's already happening right here in Atlanta.
If you or someone you know may benefit from this program, contact our office. You deserve to be seen as a whole person; not a case number.

Got a traffic ticket in Atlanta?
Before you go to court, read this.
The Pre-Trial Intervention Program for Traffic Offenses (PTIT) is one of the most powerful — and underutilized — tools available to Atlanta drivers. It's a hassle-free alternative to prosecution that allows eligible residents to resolve their case without ever setting foot in a courtroom.
Here's what that means for you:
-Charges dismissed upon successful completion
-No points added to your license
-No fines or surcharges — just a participation fee (usually less than your original ticket)
-Same-day completion in many cases; no multiple courthouse trips
You may be eligible if your citation involves a qualifying violation such as running a stop sign, an expired tag, speeding less than 34 mph over the limit, or an improper lane change.
3 simple ways to enroll:
1️⃣ Apply online at atlantasolicitor.com at least 10 business days before your court date
2️⃣ Walk in Monday–Friday, 8–11am or 1–4pm at 150 Garnett St SW, 3rd Floor
3️⃣ Ask to be referred to PTIT on your court date
One ticket shouldn't define your driving record. We're here to make sure it doesn't.

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo, Atlanta!
Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and enduring cultural contributions of the Latino community; not just across the nation, but right here in the neighborhoods we serve every day.
At the City of Atlanta's Office of the City Solicitor, justice has no cultural boundaries. Since 1975, we have been committed to providing fair, accessible, and dignified legal services to every Atlanta resident, because equal justice isn't a privilege, it's a right.
Whether you need help understanding your legal rights, navigating our diversion programs, or learning about Record Restriction, we are here for you.
A record shouldn't be a life sentence.
Atlanta, let's talk about something real. Nearly 77 million people in this country are navigating life with a criminal record — that's roughly 1 in 3 adults. The ripple effects touch everything: job applications, apartment rentals, and everyday opportunities most people take for granted.
That's why the City of Atlanta Office of the City Solicitor offers Record Restriction — a legal tool that can limit public access to your criminal history so you can compete on a level playing field.
You may be eligible if:
✔ Your case was dismissed or resulted in a non-guilty verdict
✔ Your charge was reduced to a local ordinance
✔ There was no conviction on your record
This isn't just a legal service — it's a second chance. And in a city that moves fast, we don't want anyone left behind.
