Most people know what to do during a crime — call 911. But many don’t know what happens next.

That’s why AVA created The Path Forward, a series of short videos designed to help victims and families better understand what to expect after a crime and how to navigate the criminal justice process.

One of our key partners, the City of Atlanta Police Department, participated in this series because they share our commitment to ensuring victims have access to clear information, support, and resources during difficult moments.

Did you know that AVA facilitates a support group to help grieving family members cope with the loss of a loved one due to crime? Loss is a deeply personal experience and in some cases when no arrest is made or the perpetrator isn’t identified, loved ones can experience long-lasting grief with no sense of closure. For many, these groups provide a source of comfort and healing for months and even years.

AVA’s Executive Director, Shontel, is reminding us that tomorrow, April 29, is Denim Day. 👖

Observed during Sexual Assault Awareness Month each April, the Denim Day story began in 1992 after a court overturned a r**e conviction, claiming a survivor’s clothing implied consent — sparking global outrage and protests. Wearing denim became a way to challenge harmful myths about sexual violence and stand with survivors.

Join us tomorrow by wearing denim as a symbol of solidarity.
