Last Friday hosted a free block party at City Hall. It served as the kickoff to the Mayor’s effort to provide safe spaces for youth to party for Spring Break & 404 Weekend.

We weren’t sure young people would come. But we entrusted to do what they did best. And it was epic. 🔥

Special guests | 🎤🥁🎸 Live performances by Dram, Pastor Troy & Hero the Band | 🍔Food Trucks | 🎧 Live DJs |👖Free clothes from Atlanta’s best Thrift Shops | 🎥Movies on the grass | and 🎨Art

We partied on the steps of the original City Hall, with the gold dome of the Capitol at our backs and Shirley C. Franklin Blvd in our sights. We went late into the night (not too late, we made curfew 😇), Students vibed with new friends—under the stars. Neighbors line danced in the street and kids ran around energized full of candy and snacks before falling asleep in the grass.

🫶🏽It was the best example of what is possible in Atlanta and how badly our young people need space to be expressive and freedom to enjoy themselves without fear of violence.

💰The Mayor has announced a commitment of $50K as a seed investment to support a youth-led feasibility study for a “3rd Spot” for young people…because Atlanta needs more permanent places for young people to have fun.

Stay locked in for information or sign up to partner .

At a time when people have lots of opinions and ideas, we thank you and the teams of for stepping up to respond immediately. Thank you for truly putting on for ATL’s youth.

See you next year. 💙🅰️

On April 2nd, in advance of the Metro-wide Spring Break, Mayor Dickens held a press conference to launch Student Opportunities: ATL (S.O. ATL)— a Year of the Youth initiative focused on one simple idea: giving Atlanta’s teens access to information on safe spaces, real opportunities, and positive environments to spend their time.

Through S.O. ATL, we’re recruiting citywide partners — community organizations, businesses, clergy, schools, and youth groups — to offer internships, jobs, programs, events and resources to youth and caregivers.

Visit www.ATLYearoftheYouth.com to download guides, register for jobs, access FAQs, register to employ youth and connect with partner sites.

Spread the word: Parents, please stay engaged. Know where your children are, and remember curfew laws are in place to protect our young people.

⏰ Citywide Curfew: 11pm weekdays & 12 midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. *Employers please be mindful when scheduling shifts for teens under 18.

While youth enjoy a Spring Break, it’s time to lock-in Summer Opportunities. Potential program partners and employers should follow and visit the site to register to join the effort. Help us by hiring Atlanta youth. Assist with sharing the information.

The Mayor was joined by Senior Advisor, Janean Lewis, Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson , Nick Clark ( ) and Genesiss Hollins ( student).

They say it takes a village to raise a child. We need you. Our youth need us. 💙 Links are in the bio.
