After the FY2027 budget passed, Governor Kemp withheld $344M through 157 last-minute disregards, vetoes, and reductions.

Nearly half of those cuts affect programs nonprofits deliver or depend on — while many private-sector and infrastructure investments were preserved.

The result: a deeper gap between rising demand and constrained capacity.

Our latest policy brief breaks down what changed, and who bears the cost.

Heads up, Georgia nonprofits: the federal Form 990 may be getting a significant overhaul.

The U.S. Treasury Department has announced that the IRS is planning to revise the Form 990 with new emphasis on transparency around government funding and fiscal sponsorship arrangements.

What could this mean for your organization? Potentially more detailed reporting on how public funds are received and used, and new disclosure requirements for nonprofits that use fiscal sponsorship structures.

No new rules are final yet, and a public comment period is expected before anything is finalized. GCN will be watching this closely and keeping our community updated.

Disaster and Emergency Resource Hub | GCN 05/01/2026

GCN salutes the incredible work of the Georgia nonprofits stepping up to provide disaster relief for the communities and wildlife affected by the ongoing South Georgia wildfires, which now stretch across more than 50,000 acres – especially local organizations like Brantley County Family Connection, South Georgia Equine Rescue, Second Harvest of South Georgia, Inc., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6602. Please consider donating or reaching out to these organizations if your own nonprofit can provide assistance.
