I was honoured to attend and participate in the 20th Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research Conference, joining physicians, researchers, advocates, policymakers, and warriors committed to advancing sickle cell care worldwide.
A highlight of the conference was the recognition of Dr. Gershwin Blyden, whose decades of leadership, research, and advocacy have transformed the lives of countless individuals living with sickle cell disease. As a proud Bahamian, it was especially meaningful to see one of our own receive this well deserved honour.
I also extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. Lanetta Bronté and the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research for their outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to the sickle cell community. I am particularly grateful for Dr. Bronté’s willingness to collaborate with and support The Bahamas as we work to strengthen care, education, and advocacy for our warriors.
This conference reinforced the importance of global partnerships and the tremendous opportunities they create for The Bahamas. Together, through collaboration, innovation, and advocacy, we can build a brighter future for individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease.
