Sickle Cell Day at the Georgia Capitol – March 11, 2026
The Consulate was honored to participate in Sickle Cell Day at the Georgia State Capitol as Vice Consul Kayla Smith has for the fourth consecutive year, joining Warriors, families, healthcare professionals, and policymakers in a growing movement to strengthen support for the sickle cell community.
The event provided a valuable platform for direct engagement with legislators, where advocates shared lived experiences and highlighted the need for sustained investment in care, research, and support services. Notably, Representative Omari Crawford (District 89) reaffirmed his strong support for Bill 334 and ongoing advocacy efforts.
This model of legislative engagement offers important insights for The Bahamas, demonstrating how meaningful dialogue between Warriors and policymakers can advance initiatives such as newborn screening, a national registry, and expanded care services.
