The potential of the Veteran Vote in Georgia and across our nation is a significant factor for good governance. In Georgia, almost 20 percent--nearly one in five--registered voters is a veteran or one of our family members. GAVets is working hard to gather the power of these strong voices in support of policies and actions that today’s headlines tell us are desperately needed. We are volunteers wh

The veterans chapter of Project 2025 is a lamentable section in the transformation of the Department of Veterans Affairs, which is motivated by hostility. Retired military personnel must be aware that Trump's plan involves terminating Concurrent eligibility by $160 billion, effectively ending Concurrent Receipt. Project 2025 will also phase out two low-income veteran categories from veterans health care, leaving the neediest veterans without vital medical care. In addition, Project 2025 will privatize the VA workforce and Tricare. This is a manifestation of Trump's animosity towards VA employees due to their lack of support and unionization.
Either you are a veteran already receiving benefits, or you know someone who will be devastated, both financially and health-wise, if Trump has his way.
Since many of my friends and family members knew Billy Powell, I regret to say that Billy has passed away. His viewing will take place on Friday, December 29th 6-8 at Sherrel Westbury funeral home and funeral services on Saturday, the 30th, same location.
Billy was a great American, a brave Atomic Veteran, a labor leader, a veteran leader, staunch Democrat, and the best friend anyone could have. George and I will miss him so much!

John Barrow was one of the most influential and effective members of Congress for Georgia veterans. He served on the Veterans Affairs Committee and personally guided the legislation that increased the mileage reimbursement for veterans from 7 cents a mile to 42 cents a mile. John said "if federal employees get 42 cents, our veterans should get the same." It was a better deal for us than we ever imagined. As a former Congressional Rep. for VFW, I will never forget it. John deserves Georgia veterans votes for Secretary of State. Both of John's parents were Army Officers in WWII.

Privatization is happening as we speak. Privatization will destroy the VA.
Veterans Sustain Two Serious Defeats From Trump And The House To VA Health Care This week, Trump warned, in effect, that he might stack a commission that will choose VA facilities to close. Also, the House passed an appropriation to shovel spending, not into VA facilities, but into private care. These are part of an agenda to privatize health care at the expense of veterans.
