May 2026 - Center for Diversion and Services Update
As of May 31, 2026, the City of Atlanta, in partnership with Grady Health System and a network of community organizations, continues to operate the Center for Diversion and Services (CDS) to reduce arrests for non-violent offenses linked to mental health challenges, substance use, homelessness, and extreme poverty.
In May 2026, CDS diverted 155 individuals from arrest and connected them to immediate care and long-term support services.
Individuals are eligible for diversion if they:
- Are 18 years or older
- Are involved in a non-violent offense
- Have no outstanding warrants
- Voluntarily agree to participate
At an officerâs discretion, eligible individuals may be transported to CDS in lieu of arrest. The center provides immediate stabilization and assessment, along with direct connections to treatment, housing resources, and other supportive services.
Once a participant is transferred, CDS assumes responsibility for their care.
The Atlanta Police Department responds only if additional assistance is required.
