In 1979, a Georgia Tech student named Richie Bland took it upon himself to have a $1,400 Yellow Jacket costume created by the costume designer at Six Flags. He snuck past security and ran onto the field during a football game. That is the moment where Buzz got his start.

The official name of the Tech Tower is the Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Administration Building
The Tech Tower is one of the four original buildings from when the campus first opened in October 1888.
