Happy Dolly Day! This year on 9/25 (9-to-5, get it? 😉) we celebrate the first annual Dolly Day in honor and in memory of the fabulous Dolly Parton. The nerds at KDHRC have spoken and we unanimously welcome Dolly to the KDHRC Nerd of the Month Club! (inspired by the Jelly of the Month Club in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation!)
Though Dolly needs no introduction — as she was universally beloved — we want to highlight the philanthropic work that truly illustrates the person she was. Most well-known is her Imagination Library, established in honor of her father and with the mission to inspire kids’ literacy and love of reading. Initially planned to impact only her home county of Sevier, Tennessee, Imagination Library has become a worldwide program that provides a book each month to over 3 million children!
Dolly has donated millions of dollars to various causes close to her heart, including education, health and disaster relief. She always felt drawn to giving back to her hometown community. She founded the Dollywood Foundation in 1988, which provided scholarships to keep students in East Tennessee in school. And did you know that her one million dollar donation to Vanderbilt Medical Center kickstarted development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine?
Dolly Parton taught others to dream big, believe in yourself, and lift others up. We hope you will celebrate Dolly Day by finding ways to support YOUR community in honor of this great woman!
