Truancy Intervention Project Georgia, Inc. Our mission is to empower Georgia’s youth through strategic partnerships with schools, courts, and communities.

We are dedicated to enhancing educational and life outcomes and fostering a future rich with opportunities that uplift Georgia communities. Since 1991, Truancy Intervention Project (TIP) Georgia has partnered with schools, courts, and communities to help students and families address the causes of truancy and create pathways to brighter futures. Alongside our dedicated volunteers, community partners, and advocates, we work relentlessly to break generational cycles rooted in inequity and shift the narrative on absenteeism—one “marked present” at a time. TIP provides pro bono legal representation and advocacy for students facing chronic absenteeism, along with prevention services, individualized support for students and families, and programming to drive systemic change. We Believe:

🎒 There’s a story behind every absence. 'Stay in school' is easier said than done when a child is navigating harsh realities like unstable conditions, a lack of basic necessities, and mental health struggles.

📚 Truancy is a symptom of societal shortcomings. We must collectively tackle the root causes, not just the surface issues, to create lasting change.

👩‍👧‍👦 Families deserve support, not judgement. Compassion and understanding are the foundations of real progress, opening doors to collaboration and positive outcomes between students, families, and schools.

🙌 Even small wins are big. Every day a child is in school is a day they gain not just education but structure, stability, and support. We work to move each child forward, one day at a time.

Witnessing violence is the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) most likely to cause severe attendance disruptions. Sadly, our day-to-day work with students and families reflects this reality.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we stand with families navigating violence at home.

We are dedicated to connecting them with critical resources, preserving the stability that school attendance provides, and ensuring their futures are not defined by the trauma inflicted upon them.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please visit the National Domestic Violence Hotline or call 1-800-799-SAFE.

RAINN.org also provides free, confidential support services and information for survivors of sexual violence.

We kicked off the school year by sitting down with the social work teams at Fulton County Schools and Atlanta Public Schools to align our efforts. While school social workers build daily connections, our team serves as an added safety net — stepping in early to provide critical resources for kids with attendance challenges.

By working side-by-side from day one, we're ensuring families get the right support at the right time. We’re grateful for these incredible teams and look forward to another powerful year of partnership and advocacy! 👏📚

How does one go from producing TV in New York City to helping struggling youth in Atlanta? For Sarah Serluco, it started with witnessing untold pain.

While filming an award-winning documentary, Sarah spent years watching childhood abuse survivors pour their hearts out — finally having the opportunity to be heard.

She realized she didn’t just want to tell stories of trauma. She wanted to heal it. She left the entertainment business and moved to Atlanta, earning her Master’s in social work.

As a former intern and Behavioral Services Manager at TIP, she saw firsthand that chronic absenteeism is often about heavy burdens at home. Sarah went on to establish her own practice, SIS Counseling.

Today, our story comes full circle. We’re thrilled to partner with Sis Counseling to bring compassionate mental health care to those who need it most.

We are so fortunate to have partners like Sarah, for whom advocacy is a true calling. Together, we’ll make sure no child has to carry heavy burdens alone.

In the award-winning 2000 documentary, “Just, Melvin, Just Evil,” there is a moment when an adult victim of child abuse tearfully remembers: “Each time I mentioned it to somebody, they said I was crazy.” Among those behind the camera was Sarah Serluco, a seasoned television producer who had ...

School is already in session across Georgia — but for too many students, the barriers to showing up consistently are just beginning.

Right now, students are facing challenges like lack of transportation, clothing, stable housing, and other basic support that can keep them out of the classroom.

It’s not too late to make a difference.

A gift to TIP today helps remove those barriers so more students can get to school, stay engaged, and keep moving forward this year.

Please give now to help a student stay on track. 🎒
