All Atlanta residents vote for City Council President — a powerful, independent role that helps shape the city’s policy agenda. Despite the name, the City Council President is not a member of City Council, but the President plays a key role in shaping and protecting the legislative (policymaking) side of government by: 1️⃣ Assigning council members and chairs to 7 legislative committees to ensure legislation is thoroughly reviewed and debated before it goes to full Council. This person should not assign chairs in coordination with the executive office or in exchange for favor— stressing the necessity for independence. 2️⃣ Authoring major legislation (like the Beltline & Office of Inspector General). While the role still requires a Council member to introduce legislation, the Council President can still write legislation— and it should. This office is a critical check on executive power and ensures government accountability. I’m honored to be endorsed by former Council Presidents Cathy Woolard and Felicia Moore — two leaders who’ve done this job with integrity and impact. I’d be proud to continue their legacy. Join them in early voting for me between now and October to be Atlanta’s next City Council President.
