Explore a future with Georgia DNR!

Applications are open for the 2027 DNR Career Academy! Rising high school juniors and seniors can spend a week exploring Georgia, gaining hands-on experience and discovering careers they may not have considered before.

From state parks and wildlife management areas to fish hatcheries and coastal destinations, students will get a firsthand look at careers in conservation law enforcement, wildlife and fisheries management, state park operations and more. They’ll also hear directly from DNR employees about their career journeys.

Today is the final day of the Georgia National Fair in Perry, GA. To celebrate another great year at the fair, we’re giving away a family pack of 4 free tickets for entry! Look for a park ranger at the North Gate and give the password CANNON to claim the tickets.

We’ll be firing our revolutionary war-era cannon, “Thor”, at 3:30pm and 6:30pm by the clock tower. And stop by our booths at the Georgia Grown building and McGill Marketplace for your annual pass and career opportunities.

Join us at Tallulah Gorge on November 6 for a special event with EnChroma!

Are you color blind and live close to Tallulah Gorge State Park (GA)? 🍂🍁

We’re teaming up with Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites and looking for color blind volunteers who have never tried EnChroma glasses to join us on November 6 from 11:00 AM–12:30 PM.

Selected participants will experience fall colors with EnChroma glasses for the first time in one of Georgia’s most colorful outdoor settings and share their experience with attending media.

🎁 Each selected volunteer will receive a FREE pair of EnChroma outdoor color blind glasses to keep as a thank you.

Another monumental moment for America’s 250!

Our park rangers were joined by Governor Brian Kemp, Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, DNR Commissioner Walter Rabon, and State Parks Director Angie Johnson to officially kick off the Georgia National Fair with a cannon demonstration and musket firing.

Rangers from across the state came together to roll out Thor, our Revolutionary War era cannon from Fort Morris. You can come and get a photo with the cannon at our booth in the Georgia Grown Building, from now until the last day of the fair on October 18th. You can also pick up your annual pass and 2027 Parks calendar at the booth.

And if you’re feeling fomo for missing the cannon firing, we’ll be holding more demonstrations on the final day of the fair: Sunday, October 18.

Rare opportunity for archaeology enthusiasts at Fort Morris on October 17th!

Join the Office of the State Archaeologist as they deploy Ground Penetrating Radar to explore what lies hidden underground at Fort Morris State Historic Site in Midway, GA. This preserved site was used in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to defend Georgia from British forces. Experts from Georgia Southern University, University of Georgia, Springfield Legacy Foundation, and the Society of Georgia Archaeology will also be on hand for the project. Don't miss this chance to participate in real archaeological work as it happens.

Georgia high school students are invited to create a drawing or painting showcasing a landscape, historic site or natural feature that captures the beauty and value of Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites.
