The Georgia Composite Medical Board was pleased to participate in Getting into the Weeds: A Georgia Medical Cannabis Law Update, hosted by Georgia State University College of Law and the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission on October 16!

Our Executive Director, Jason Jones, joined fellow healthcare and legal professionals as a panelist for “Understanding the Medical Cannabis Program in Georgia,” discussing the state's evolving medical cannabis framework, physicians' responsibilities when working with patients seeking medical cannabis, and the importance of ensuring safe, informed, and responsible patient care.

As Georgia's medical cannabis program continues to evolve, conversations like these are essential to helping physicians understand their roles and responsibilities while keeping patient safety and well-being at the forefront.

Thank you to the organizers, speakers, and attendees for fostering meaningful discussions and collaboration. We're grateful for the opportunity to contribute to these important conversations!

That's a wrap on the Georgia National Fair!

What an incredible time our team had in Perry, Georgia! From meeting so many wonderful fairgoers to answering questions, handing out some GCMB swag, and connecting with our community, we had an amazing experience!

A special shoutout to our incredible GCMB staff who made it all possible! Between coordinating schedules, driving long distances, covering every shift, and going above and beyond to ensure our booth was staffed all throughout the fair, our team truly showed up for one another and for the people of Georgia. We are so grateful for their dedication and teamwork! (Most not even pictured).

And to everyone who stopped by Booth #126 in the McGill Building to say hello, ask a question, or learn more about the Georgia Composite Medical Board, thank you! We enjoyed meeting you, answering your questions, and sharing more about the important work our agency does.

Until next year, Perry! 🎡

We've been on the move this month!

As we've said before, one of our biggest priorities this year is getting out into our communities to build relationships, educate the public, and find in-person opportunities to serve our licensees with excellence.

A huge thank you to the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) for welcoming us to their Fall Conference! We're always grateful for the opportunity to sponsor this organization, connect with law enforcement professionals from across the state, answer questions face-to-face, and share more about our investigative processes and the work we do to protect Georgia's patients.

For us, these events are about more than showing up with a booth. They're about building partnerships, making ourselves accessible, and ensuring the people and communities we serve know we're here to help.

Thank you, GACP, for another wonderful opportunity to connect. We look forward to continuing to work together to serve Georgia well!

Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?

Our team at the Georgia Composite Medical Board is wearing pink to show our support for those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. This month, and every month, we stand with the fighters, celebrate the survivors, honor those we have lost, and recognize the families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals who walk alongside them.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Georgia’s incredible medical community. To the physicians, PAs, nurses, specialists, and countless healthcare professionals who dedicate themselves to caring for individuals and families facing this disease, your compassion, expertise, and commitment make a difference in the lives of so many. We are deeply grateful for the care, comfort, and hope you provide to Georgians every day.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is also an important reminder that early detection matters. We encourage Georgians to stay informed, understand their risk factors, and speak with their healthcare providers about recommended screenings.

Together, we wear pink to raise awareness, show support, and remind those facing breast cancer that they are not alone. 🎀

Happy National Physician Assistant Week, Georgia PAs! 🩺

From October 6 to 12, the Georgia Composite Medical Board is celebrating the physician assistants who care for patients in every corner of our state, from busy Atlanta hospitals to rural clinics in small towns.

Did you know Georgia helped shape the PA profession from the start? In 1967, a pioneering program at Grady Memorial Hospital trained some of the earliest PAs in the country. That work led Emory University to launch one of the nation's first degree-granting PA programs in 1971.

Today, Georgia PAs practice in primary care, surgery, emergency medicine, and nearly every specialty in between, expanding access to care for Georgians everywhere.

To every physician assistant in Georgia: thank you for your skill, your compassion, and your dedication to your patients and we see it. Your work makes a difference every day!

Licensees: Verification requests are going paperless!

Any verifications that cannot be submitted through VeriDoc can now be requested and paid for directly through your ThoughtSpan Gateway. Once payment is received, the system will automatically email the Official Verification to the email address provided when the request was submitted.

With this process now in place, GCMB should no longer be receiving checks for verifications as we move to a 100% paperless process.

If a check is received for a verification, it will be returned. Regular checks will be returned via regular mail, and certified funds (such as a cashier's check or money order) will be returned via Priority Mail.

Last week, our Database Administrator, Tristan Hooper, attended the AMA-FSMB Symposium on AI and the Practice of Medicine, a national gathering focused on accountability and responsibility as artificial intelligence becomes part of patient care.

Physicians, regulators, and policy experts came together to explore some of the biggest questions facing medicine today. Discussions covered patient trust, the importance of meaningful clinician review, the need for patients to always be able to reach a person, and how responsibility should be shared among clinicians, practices, and technology developers.

Tristan brought these insights back to GCMB in a detailed briefing for our Board, helping us stay informed and prepared as this technology continues to evolve. Staying ahead of emerging trends is an important part of our mission to protect the health of Georgians, and we're proud of the thoughtful expertise Tristan brings to our team!
