Liberty lovers,

We have been receiving messages regarding the first meeting of the school year. It is at this time we feel we should announce the indefinite hiatus of YAL @ Georgia State. Our schedules are extremely conflicting this year as there is a disparity in both number of classes and difficulty of classes at the executive levek that's made us make the tough decision to suspend operations.

Know that we are just as upset as you are, but we are looking forward to taking this time to think of ways to reignite the group into a more accessible student organization.

Web operations will be increased during this semester, so be on the lookout for updates, articles, and other liberty minded entertainment on this page. :)

Be awesome to one another.

-Grant (Executive Secretary)

Hello all, hope all is well with you and you efforts for Liberty.

Yesterday afternoon, I posted a video of a close friend being arrested on campus for "not looking student enough." That being said, certain things about the video need to be clarified.

First and foremost, the individual being arrested was indeed not a student. That being said, however, it should be noted that Georgia State University student organizations have a long and storied history of being open to the general public. It isn't uncommon to see friends from neighboring universities such as Georgia Tech, Emory, and other smaller colleges at our meetings.

In addition, Georgia State University has the unique privilege of being one of the most diverse campuses in the nation. We have people of all backgrounds, classes, races, religions, and age groups coming to our university to further their education. This is something we take pride in as a community.

This is why it breaks our hearts to see the authoritarian Atlanta/GSU Police Department unfairly and unjustly discriminate against someone who very well could have been a student.

The "suspicious activity" they cited as probable cause to stop him was the fact that he simply asked for a cigarette from an individual that is not pictured in the video. GSU recently became a tobacco-free campus along with other universities in the University System of Georgia.

All this being said, we wish our friend the best and hopefully some degree of justice comes from this.

Thank you all,

Grant MacNeil (Director of Planning, YAL @ GSU)

Video Released of Trooper-Involved Shooting 09/25/2014

Seems like the norm is becoming shoot first, paid vacation later. Police brutality needs to come to an end. We can start by taking away their tanks, assault rifles, and explosives. Then we can address why it is that minority populations are always targeted at a much higher rate by police.

The system is broken. Demand change.

YAL@GSU had a very fruitful first full day of tabling today since OrgFair! We added many new people to our contact list to be informed of our meetings. Many even left both email and phone number!

Happy Constitution Day! Benjamin Franklin once famously responded when asked what government he and the founding fathers had established with "A Republic. If you can keep it."

Do you think we have kept the Constitutional Republic in tact? If yes, how? If no, why not? And do you think it is ever going to be attainable again?
