Rebecca's Tent has provided shelter for over 2,000 women experiencing homelessness since 1983.

Rebecca’s Tent has served over 1,600 women since 1983 helping them learn new life skills, find temporary and full-time employment and transition into more stable housing. The Shelter serves 26-35 women, the Follow-Up Program serves 10-15, and the Day Services program serves 20-25 women experiencing homelessness each year. In the five year period from 2009-2014 Rebecca’s Tent had the following outc

"I was scared to death."

That's how she described walking into a shelter for the first time. She'd been a driver for over a decade — school buses, hospital runs, university routes. Someone who showed up every day.

Then a relationship turned dangerous, she had a young child, and the safe place she thought she had was gone.

What she found at Rebecca's Tent wasn't what she feared. Women going through their own versions of the same impossible year. A counselor who told her something that stayed:

"I cannot want more for you than you do. We're here to help, but the work has to be done by you."

She's a bus operator now. Her own apartment. Still moving forward. Support our mission by joining us on June 11: https://tinyurl.com/rebeccas-tent

She owned a truck. Ran her own business for years.

Then came the diagnosis. Then the financial crisis. The business went quiet, the income stopped, and the support system she thought she had disappeared.

"I was sleeping in parking lots — anywhere I could find somewhere safe."

She found Rebecca's Tent. What she describes about those months isn't the bed or the meals — it's being seen by people who weren't obligated to care.

She has her own apartment now. Two grandsons. A commercial license she's upgrading.

"Life is awesome," she said — and she meant it in the way people mean it when they've had real reason to doubt it.

In 1983, a rabbi and a Holocaust survivor looked at the women sleeping outside in an Atlanta winter and decided to do something about it. Rabbi Marc Wilson and Helen Spiegel of Congregation Shearith Israel opened one of the city's first women's shelters — and the first ever housed in a synagogue in the United States. Helen had survived displacement herself. She knew what it cost. That same spirit drives everything we do today. This June 11, help us carry their work forward.

A warm bed. A hot meal. A caseworker who remembers your name. For women experiencing homelessness in Atlanta, that combination changes everything. Since 1983, Rebecca's Tent has been that place. Our June 11 fundraiser is coming. $45 feeds all 10 residents breakfast. $35 puts a grocery card in the hands of a woman rebuilding her life. Link in bio to give.

This year, Rebecca's Tent is partnering with the Atlanta Woman's Club for our June 11 fundraiser. The Atlanta Woman's Club has spent over a century building community, championing service, and investing in the women of this city. Their support brings new energy and reach to our campaign — and reflects what's possible when Atlanta's women's organizations show up for each other. Mark the date: June 11. Link in bio. 🍑
