The U.S. Secret Service - Atlanta Field Office congratulates Detective Daniel Wood on receiving the Cobb Chamber Public Safety Award of Merit for his exceptional work on a complex, multi-year cyber exploitation investigation that ultimately identified hundreds of victims across multiple states. Our cooperative efforts to bring this perpetrator to justice in this case highlight the strength of our partnerships with local law enforcement and how working together, we make a difference in our community.

🏆 Congratulations to Detective Daniel Wood!

Detective Wood was honored with the Cobb Chamber Public Safety Award of Merit for his exceptional work on a complex, multi-year cyber exploitation investigation that ultimately identified hundreds of victims across multiple states.

The investigation began with a single report from a Kennesaw victim whose Snapchat account had been compromised. As Detective Wood dug deeper, he uncovered a sophisticated scheme in which the offender impersonated victims’ friends to gain access to social media accounts, obtain private images, and then use those images to extort and manipulate victims.

Through extensive digital forensic analysis, search warrants, subpoenas, account records, and countless hours of investigative work, Detective Wood connected additional cases and identified victims throughout the country. What started as one local investigation grew into a much larger federal case involving victims of varying ages, including minors.

Detective Wood coordinated with law enforcement agencies across the country, the U.S. Secret Service, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to develop the case. He also became a resource for other investigators working similar cases, helping agencies connect their victims to the same offender and strengthening the overall investigation.

His work ultimately contributed to a successful federal prosecution for computer fraud, extortion, and cyberstalking. More importantly, his dedication helped provide answers, support, and justice to victims who had been targeted through online exploitation.

Detective Wood invested thousands of hours, both on and off duty, into this investigation. His perseverance, technical expertise, and commitment to the victims exemplify the level of service we are proud to see recognized by the Cobb Chamber.

Please join us in congratulating Detective Wood on this well-deserved honor!

Twenty-five years have passed, yet the events of September 11, 2001, remain difficult to comprehend—and impossible to forget.

Today, as memorials are held across our nation and around the world, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and aboard Flight 93, where courageous passengers and crew fought back against the hijackers and prevented their aircraft from reaching another target.
We remember the first responders who ran toward danger when others were fleeing. We honor the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel, military members and ordinary citizens who answered an extraordinary call to serve—many making the ultimate sacrifice.

For the United States Secret Service we also remember one of our own: Master Special Officer Craig J. Miller of the Special Services Division. MSO Miller was on temporary assignment in New York, preparing for the United Nations General Assembly from the Secret Service’s New York Field Office at 7 World Trade Center. He was among the 72 law enforcement officers who lost their lives that day.

The toll of September 11 did not end when the smoke cleared. We also honor those who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero and the other attack sites—and who later became ill or lost their lives because of their service in the aftermath.

A quarter-century has now passed. An entire generation has grown up knowing September 11 only through photographs, memorials, history lessons and the stories of those who lived through it. That makes our responsibility to remember—and to tell those stories—even more important. Twenty-five years later, we remember their names. We honor their courage. We carry forward their legacy. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
