What do six law enforcement agencies and a box of donuts have in common? A busy morning in Dos Palos!

This morning, officers from Dos Palos PD, Gustine PD, Atwater PD, Merced PD, Los Banos PD, and CHP Merced came together for a C.I.T.E. (Collaborative Integrated Traffic Enforcement) detail.

The morning started with a briefing hosted by Dos Palos PD, who made sure everyone was fueled up with a few “power biscuits” (donuts) before the group photo and heading out to work.

First stop, school zones. Officers focused on traffic safety around local schools before moving into areas where residents have reported ongoing traffic concerns.

One thing we appreciate about these operations is the opportunity to work alongside officers from neighboring departments. We may wear different uniforms and patrol different areas, but we deal with many of the same traffic problems. Working together gives us a chance to make a bigger impact than any one agency could on its own.

A big thank you to Dos Palos PD for organizing this morning’s detail and to every agency that participated.

And remember, just because you don’t see a patrol car doesn’t mean we’re not around. Drive safely!

TWO SEMI-TRUCKS COLLIDE AT SR-165 AND SR-140

Here’s a look at the scene from this morning’s collision involving two semi-trucks at SR-165 and SR-140. The collision blocked the roadway and required heavy-duty tow trucks to assist with clearing the scene. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

Just last week, CHP Merced conducted a commercial vehicle enforcement operation in response to concerns about unsafe driving behaviors. Incidents like this highlight the importance of commercial vehicle safety and why these enforcement efforts continue well beyond a single operation.

LOOK WHO STOPPED BY!

Remember “Grumpy Cop”? Retired CHP Officer Mark Frost stopped by the office to say hello!

Judging by that smile, retirement is treating him pretty well. Apparently, he’s not so grumpy anymore!

It was great catching up with Frost, one of our original social media stars. Thanks for stopping by and for your years of service!

A career with the CHP comes with competitive pay, great benefits, and a retirement worth looking forward to. Just ask Frost!

You spoke. We listened. And today, we took action.

Over the past several weeks, CHP Merced has received numerous complaints about commercial vehicles speeding, traveling in improper lanes, and making unsafe lane changes on our local highways.

Today, officers from the CHP Merced Area, Chowchilla River Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility, and Central Division’s Mobile Road Enforcement team joined forces for a commercial vehicle focused Coordinated Integrated Traffic Enforcement (CITE) operation.

Our efforts included support from lieutenants from both the Merced Area and Chowchilla River, along with sergeants from both commands who were out in the field working alongside our officers.

While today’s operation focused on commercial vehicles, our commitment to traffic safety doesn’t end when the operation is over.

Our officers are on the road every day, watching for dangerous driving behaviors involving ALL vehicles. Whether it’s a passenger car, pickup truck, or commercial vehicle, traffic laws apply to everyone.

We appreciate the community members who have taken the time to report their concerns. Your calls and messages help us identify problem areas and direct enforcement efforts where they’re needed.

Today’s operation may be over, but our enforcement efforts are not.

IMPAIRED DRIVING DOESN’T JUST HAPPEN ON THE WEEKENDS.

Monday night, and while most people were wrapping up the first day of the workweek, graveyard partners Officer Thornton and Officer Bounlangsy were out working the roads.

Before the night was over, they had made two separate arrests for driving while impaired.

It’s an important reminder that there isn’t a certain day of the week or time of night when impaired driving becomes a problem. It can happen anytime. That’s why our officers are out there 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We’ll continue doing our part to find and remove impaired drivers, but we need the public’s help too. If you see someone you believe may be driving impaired, call 9-1-1. Give the dispatcher your location, direction of travel and the best description of the vehicle you can provide.

Sometimes that phone call is what helps us get to a dangerous driver before someone gets hurt.

Impaired driving doesn’t take a night off. Neither do the officers working to keep these roads safe.

A routine drive can change in an instant. Let these photos be a reminder to give the road your full attention this Monday morning.

Last week, Officer Lomeli responded to the traffic collision pictured here. As you head to work or school, slow down, stay focused and see the whole road.

Scan ahead, check both directions and watch for vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. Come to a complete stop at stop signs and take the time to make sure your path is clear before proceeding.

Put the phone away, limit distractions and leave yourself enough time to avoid rushing.

Someone is counting on you to arrive safely.

Officer Trenado is back at it again!

He recently recovered these two stolen vehicles after uncovering switched vehicle identification numbers (VINs). The switches were meant to hide the vehicles’ true identities. Officer Trenado figured out what they were hiding.

Good work, Officer Trenado! These recoveries are another example of how our CHP Merced officers work hard every day for the people of California.
