PRESS RELEASE
Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Awards 2026 GOHS Technology Grant to
Auburn Police Department
The Auburn Police Department is pleased to announce it has received a $30,000.00 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The grant, which will continue through September of 2027 will help finance the purchase of sixteen Dell Pro Rugged laptops, which is necessary to support the operational needs of the Patrol Division within the Police Department. These devices will be deployed in patrol vehicles and used by officers in the field for report writing, accessing law enforcement databases, viewing call information, and completing other critical mobile computing tasks. The rugged design is essential to withstand the demanding law enforcement environment, including constant vehicle use, varying weather conditions, vibration, and frequent handling. Replacing and standardizing these laptops will improve reliability, officer efficiency, and uninterrupted access to mission-critical systems needed for effective public safety operations.
“The loss of one life on our roads is one too many, and the fact almost all fatal traffic crashes can be prevented is one reason why we are awarding this grant,” Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable, and we will continue to help develop and implement educational messages, enforcement campaigns, and other safety initiatives aimed at bringing us one step closer to our goal.”
“These new rugged laptops will give our patrol officers reliable access to critical information in the field, allowing them to work more efficiently, complete reports faster, and continue providing the high level of service our community expects.”
