A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect as of 12pm today on October 15th and will remain in effect until 10am October 16th.

In response to this weather pattern, Higgins Fire has staffed an additional Engine and Water Tender.

PG&E has also issued a PSPS event which will affect approximately 2000 Nevada County PG&E customers through the duration of the Red Flag Warning.

Check PG&E website for any additional details you may need.

Be prepared, stay alert and be safe.

Your Higgins Fire staff remains ready to respond to any and all emergencies throughout the county.

🇺🇸 Never Forgotten — 9/11/2001 🇺🇸

Today, the crews of Higgins Fire Protection District honor the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on that tragic day.

In remembrance, our on-duty crews at Station 22 and Station 23 completed 343 lunges — one for each of the 343 brothers and sisters who never made it home.

343 lives.
343 heroes.
343 families forever changed.
One sacrifice we will never forget.

Today, we remember their courage, their commitment, and their willingness to run toward danger when others were running away.

343 - We remember. We honor. We will never forget September 11, 2001. Always Remembered. Always Honored.

🚒 Higgins Fire Answers the Call

Late Monday night, Higgins Fire answered the call for assistance on the Gann Fire, deploying as part of Strike Team 4103C out of Nevada County, alongside crews from Grass Valley Fire, Penn Valley Fire, Peardale-Chicago Park Fire, and North San Juan Fire.

Our crews departed late Monday night and arrived in the early hours of Tuesday morning. After a short turnaround, they were immediately put to work helping strengthen and improve fireline around the incident.

This is what mutual aid is all about—when our neighbors need help, we answer the call. Our crews are proud to stand alongside firefighters from across the region, working together to protect communities and keep the fire from spreading.

After several days of hard work on the incident, our crews are on their way home today. We’re proud of their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to leave their families and beds in the middle of the night to help those in need.

We’d also like to thank all of the agencies that make these mutual-aid responses possible. It takes a team, and Strike Team 4103C is a great example of firefighters coming together to get the job done.

Training Day!

This week, your Higgins firefighters and volunteers focused on firefighter survival training, sharpening our skills that matter when fire conditions take a turn.
Crews worked through emergency bailout techniques, practicing how to react quickly when rapid escape becomes necessary. We also trained on awareness when in a low-visibility environment.
Training ensures we're prepared to serve our community while also staying safe.
