π₯ HOT PAVEMENT ALERT! πΎβοΈ
Before heading out for a walk, remember this simple test: If you canβt comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds, itβs too hot for your petβs paws.
Hot sidewalks and asphalt can cause painful burns in just minutes. To keep your furry friends safe:
β
Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours
β
Choose grassy or shaded routes when possible
β
Bring water for both you and your pet
β
Watch for signs of overheating
A little planning goes a long way in keeping your four-legged family members safe, healthy, and happy this summer!

π» BEAR SAFETY REMINDER π»
Help keep both your family and wildlife safe by following a few simple tips:
β’ Secure trash cans and remove food sources
β’ Do not leave pet food outside overnight
β’ Keep vehicle doors locked and free of food or scented items
β’ Clean BBQ grills after use
β’ Never approach, feed, or attempt to photograph bears up close
Removing food sources around your home helps discourage bears from returning to neighborhoods and encourages them to continue searching for natural food sources in the wild.
If you encounter a bear:
β‘οΈ Stay calm
β‘οΈ Give the bear space to leave
β‘οΈ Back away slowly
β‘οΈ Never run
When reporting a bear sighting, please try to provide:
π Exact location
π§ Direction of travel
β° Time the bear was seen

Auburn PD personnel are participating in annual Unified Command training alongside our regional partners to improve coordination during real-world emergencies.
This scenario-based training focuses on:
Building effective Unified Command structures.
Coordinating evacuations and road closures.
Delivering clear, consistent public messaging.
Enhancing communication and notification protocols.
Identifying collection points and managing resources.
Enhancing frontline response coordination and incident management.
With wildfires and large-scale incidents becoming increasingly complex, training like this is critical. Strong relationships and coordinated decision-making before an incident occurs help ensure a safer and more effective response when our communities need it most.
Training together means responding better together.

π» Friendly Foothill Reminder π»
We live in beautiful bear country, and that means we sometimes share our neighborhoods with wildlife β including mama bears and their cubs. β€οΈ
A reminder that seeing bears in the foothills is not unusual, especially this time of year. Mama bears are typically just trying to keep their babies safe and find food. Please give them plenty of space and avoid approaching, feeding, or cornering them.
If a bear becomes aggressive or poses an immediate safety concern, residents can contact the California Department of Fish & Wildlife for guidance. However, in many cases, there may not be much they can do unless the animals are acting aggressively or creating a serious threat. As always, dial 911 if there is an emergency.
A few helpful tips:
π Bring pet food and bird feeders inside
ποΈ Secure garbage cans
πΆ Keep pets supervised
πΈ Enjoy wildlife from a safe distance
Letβs help keep both our community and the bears safe. πΎ
