What’s Going On Around Town?

Work on the Wastewater Treatment Plant clarifier continues and is a great example of the City’s commitment to investing in critical infrastructure. This clarifier is an essential part of our wastewater treatment process and will help support reliable operations well into the future.

We’re now just days away from bringing it online, which will further strengthen the treatment process and improve the long-term resilience of the facility. This project has been a tremendous team effort, and a lot of credit goes to the Public Works and Engineering staff, along with the City’s contractor, for keeping the project moving and getting it completed on schedule.

What’s going on around town today?

Your Public Works crew, along with a local contractor, spent the day tackling a very large gray pine along Lincoln Way. In order to safely remove the tree, we had to temporarily close a portion of the roadway.

Why the big operation? This pine was located in the public right-of-way and hanging over the travel lane — and with the recent winds plus these trees’ unfortunate habit of deciding they no longer want to stay upright, we felt it was best to act before nature made the decision for us.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience while we work to keep our streets safe!

This National Public Works Week, the City of Auburn proudly recognizes the dedication, professionalism, and heart of our 21-member Public Works team.
Behind every safe street, reliable transit route, maintained park facility, wastewater improvement, repaired vehicle, engineering solution, and emergency response is a group of individuals who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes to keep our city moving forward.
Public Works is more than infrastructure. It is service. It is problem-solving. It is early mornings, late nights, and responding when the community needs help most. From transportation and transit operations to fleet maintenance, facilities, engineering, utilities, and countless responsibilities that often go unnoticed, this team represents the backbone of Auburn’s daily operations.
What makes this crew exceptional is not just the wide range of skills they bring to the table, but the pride they take in serving their community. Every repaired roadway, maintained vehicle, improved system, and completed project reflects a commitment to making Auburn a safer, stronger, and better place for everyone.
To our Public Works professionals: thank you for your hard work, your resilience, and your unwavering dedication to public service. Your efforts may not always be visible, but they are felt every single day throughout our city.
This week, and every week, we celebrate you.
Happy National Public Works Week to the City of Auburn Public Works team.
