Mental health is an essential part of our overall health, yet we often think about it only when challenges arise. Today reminds us that caring for our mental well-being deserves attention every day.

At Augusta Recreation & Parks, we recognize that recreation offers benefits far beyond physical fitness. Our parks provide opportunities to enjoy nature, exercise and unwind, while our community centers and programs bring people together, encourage friendships and create a sense of belonging.

Regular physical activity, meaningful relationships and time to recharge can help reduce stress and improve our quality of life. Equally important are recognizing when we or others need additional support, listening without judgment and understanding that seeking professional help is a positive step toward better health.

A simple conversation, a shared activity or checking in on a friend or neighbor can make a meaningful difference.

If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress or a mental health crisis, call or text 988 for free, confidential support, available 24 hours a day.

A healthier Augusta begins with all of us.

Facility Closures

The Augusta Aquatics Center is closed to the public today while hosting a swim meet. Regular hours of operation are scheduled to resume Monday, October 12.

The Robert Baurle Boat Ramp is closed until further notice in anticipation of inclement weather and potentially dangerous conditions on the water.

Weather and Park Safety

With potentially hazardous weather approaching our region, we ask residents to exercise caution when visiting parks and outdoor recreation areas.

Strong winds can bring down tree limbs and create dangerous conditions along walking trails, playgrounds and other wooded areas. Avoid parks during high winds, stay away from flooded or low-lying areas, and never approach downed trees or power lines. If thunderstorms develop, seek shelter in a substantial building or enclosed vehicle.

Weather conditions may change quickly, and scheduled activities or facility access may be affected. Please monitor official weather information and follow any advisories issued by local emergency management officials.

Your safety is important to us. Whether you join us for one of today's scheduled activities or choose to spend the day at home, we hope you have a safe and enjoyable Saturday.
