Five years.

Five years ago today, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office suffered a loss that forever changed our agency.

On September 23, 2021, Deputy Luke Gross made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the people of Hancock County.

For those of us who knew Luke, remembering him means remembering much more than the badge he wore. We remember his personality, his laugh, his kindness, his love for his family, and the way he could connect with just about anyone—especially kids. We remember a friend and coworker who genuinely cared about the people he served.

Five years is a significant amount of time. People come and go, circumstances change, and life continues moving forward. But there are some people whose impact doesn’t disappear with the passing of time.

Luke is one of those people.

His photograph still hangs in our office. His memorial is passed by our deputies every day. His name is carried on a stretch of Route 3 through Trenton. And, most importantly, his memory continues through his family, his friends, the people whose lives he touched, and the men and women who continue the work he cared so deeply about.

Early this morning, members of our agency gathered near the place where Luke’s watch ended five years ago. It was a simple opportunity to stand together, remember our friend, and make sure that as the years continue to pass, we never allow his service or sacrifice to become simply a date on the calendar.

Luke, you are still missed. You are still talked about. And you are still very much a part of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Luke Gross — Hancock 509
End of Watch: September 23, 2021

The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office Deputy found nearly two pounds of co***ne and methamphetamine and guns during a traffic stop in Augusta. After testing, police determined there was 771 grams (1.7 pounds) of co***ne HCL and 25.5 grams of methamphetamine.
The Deputy stopped a car on Bangor Street at about 3 a.m. on Thursday for having an expired license plate.
When Deputies searched the vehicle, they found a backpack with drugs and guns inside. A pistol was also found underneath a back seat. One of the guns found had been reported as stolen.
A passenger in the car, Allen Glidden, 40, of Jefferson, admitted that the drugs and guns were his.
Glidden was charged with aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, and theft by receiving stolen property. He is being held at the Kennebec County Correction Facility on $25,000 cash bail as well as other conditions. Sheriff Mason says this is just one great example of the amazing work the Deputies do to protect our County. Awesome job Deputy Boivin and all other law enforcement involved.
