I would say my usual “Meet your Butler County Fire District #2 members” but I have a feeling you all already know this exemplary human..

The man, the myth, the legend.

Major Ray L. Marbut

Major Marbut started with the department in 1974 as a junior. Marbut later transitioned to a dispatcher in 1976 while still working for the fire department.

Major was a 1979 graduate of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center and quickly earned his fire investigator certification in May of 1980.

From there he continued to grow his fire career becoming a Sergeant in 1984, and Lieutenant shortly after.

And it doesn’t end there…

In 1990, he was promoted to Captain, and 1991 promoted to Major.

For the last FIFTY YEARS, this city, and Fire District #2 has been blessed with the best.

The knowledge he has shared, the advice that’s always taken (most of the time), the countless friends and the firefighters he’s helped become who they are today.

Chief Ackerman said it best when he said, “this man is the epitome of a public servant”.

He has dedicated half a century to us. And we could not appreciate him more. An outstanding human being.

Thank you Major, for the last 50 years, and thank you Shelly, for putting up with us. ❤️

Congratulations on 50 years, Major!
