AULT POLICE DEPARTMENT
MEDIA RELEASE
Date: August 8, 2026
Location: Wagon Wheel Park – Ault Fall Festival
Incident: Microburst Weather Event at Ault Fall Festival

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, a sudden microburst impacted the Ault Fall Festival at Wagon Wheel Park. Ault Police Department officers were already on scene providing event security and immediately responded when the microburst struck.
Officers requested assistance from the Ault-Pierce Fire Department and AMR Weld while simultaneously beginning aid for one individual who sustained non-life-threatening injuries caused by flying debris. The injured party was transported by EMS to a local hospital for medical treatment.

In the aftermath of the microburst, officers assisted vendors, event organizers, and community members with debris removal and safety assessment at the park. Due to the extent of damage and debris, the festival permit was suspended. After evaluating conditions, festival leadership determined that Saturday night’s scheduled events would not continue.

Fire crews were on scene of the mud volleyball event just down the street from the park. Flying debris and damage was reported at this location as well, although no injuries were reported at that event.

All Fall Festival events scheduled for Sunday morning—including the Ault-Pierce Fire Department Pancake Breakfast—will continue as planned.

Microbursts are sudden, powerful downdrafts that occur within thunderstorms. When these downdrafts hit the ground, they spread outward rapidly, producing intense, localized winds that can be comparable to those of tornadoes. Unlike tornadoes, microbursts do not rotate and often occur with little noticeable warning. Although they typically last only a few minutes, microbursts can cause significant damage to trees, structures, and outdoor events due to strong wind forces and flying debris.

The Ault Police Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to all community members who stepped in to help during the weather incident and throughout the cleanup process. Your quick action, teamwork, and support were instrumental in maintaining safety and restoring the area.

🎆 Fireworks Reminder 🎆

As the July 4th holiday approaches, commemorating the 250th anniversary of our nation's independence, the Ault Police Department would like to remind the public about Municipal Code 9.30.020.

This ordinance explicitly prohibits the use, sale, and possession of illegal fireworks within town limits. Fireworks that leave the ground, generate a loud audible effect, or shoot/emits flaming pellets/other materials are considered illegal and will be seized, with a fine of $1000 imposed.

If you need to report illegal fireworks, please call the non-emergency line at 970-356-1212; do not call 911 unless there is an emergency.

Given the dry weather patterns experienced, even small fireworks can spark grass fires or property damage.

Help us keep our community safe by adhering to the code and opting for safer celebration methods.

We appreciate your cooperation and wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and fire-free holiday.
