Very good read.

We’d like to encourage our community to go see some Houn Dawg events. Baseball, softball, basketball, football, volleyball, soccer, wrestling, track and field, cross country, band, choir, cheer, theatre, tennis, golf, and any other event that showcases our kids and their talents.

Congrats to all the seniors from last night! Football, Band, and cheerleading are all extremely important and difficult activities. They all take dedication, commitment, and tenacity. From APD, we are proud and thankful for each of you.

This isn’t just us demonstrating our ability to use trash AI graphics. It’s actually us reminding everyone about crosswalks.

As fuel prices remain high, folks are going to be walking more frequently. Additionally, the City of Aurora will be starting a project soon that will expand on our walking trails in town. Those trails will cross roadways.

Please remember that a pedestrian entering a crosswalk has the right of way and vehicles must stop for them. It’s pretty simple. When you see a pedestrian sign, slow down and check for people. If they’re crossing, stop for them.

This is especially true near schools and around school start and dismissal times. We have two major crosswalks on Church street (business 60). One at Washington and one at Lincoln. People blow through those crosswalks without even looking and it’s dangerous.

Please be careful and courteous to our pedestrians in crosswalks!

Now please enjoy some poopy AI. You’re welcome.

Thanks for the great work MPD and especially Jax!

Last night, Monett K9 Jax and Monett K9 officers assisted the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and other area agencies in locating a wanted suspect in Verona.

The suspect, who was wanted on multiple felony warrants, fled from a residence. Jax tracked and located him, and officers took him into custody. No injuries were reported during the incident.

We appreciate the teamwork among our area law enforcement agencies. This deployment is an example of how Monett’s K9 program supports our officers and neighboring communities.

Good work, Jax, and everyone involved!

Community Update

Early this morning, Aurora PD attempted a traffic stop in Aurora on a truck pulling a trailer. The driver of the truck failed to yield and engaged us in pursuit.

The pursuit left north on 39 and eventually ended in Verona. Both a passenger and the driver fled on foot after the truck was damaged during the pursuit. The passenger has been apprehended and is in police custody

The driver is identified as Brandon Packwood. He has not yet been located. Packwood is wanted on numerous dangerous felony warrants including armed robbery and should be considered violent. The pursuit ended around the BNSF property in Verona and Packwood is believed to still be in the area.

If you see him or anything suspicious, call 911 immediately. We are still working in the area attempting to locate him. Please don’t approach him if you see him as he is known to be armed and dangerous. He is familiar with the Verona area.

Please look at Packwood’s photograph closely. He may use a ruse to gain access to your home or vehicles. Please call us immediately if you see him.

Question: I live on (redacted) street. The people next door are up all night banging on their car in the garage. Their dog is with them always barking all night. I called and the officer called me back and said he could talk to them but could not issue any tickets unless I filled out a complaint. Why can’t you hear the noise and write a noise ticket?

Answer: That’s a great question and a question we get a lot. Logically it seems like if we hear or see the peace disturbance (noise, barking, whatever) that we would be able to write a ticket. But this is the legal system we’re talking about, so logic doesn’t always apply!

Peace disturbance is a victim crime. In order for us to enforce ordinances or statutes related to peace disturbance, we have to have a victim. The “city” or “state” is not the victim like in cases of DWI or Speeding, or Fail to Register, or Driving While Revoked. To prove someone’s peace was disturbed, we have to have a disturbed victim file a complaint.

We completely understand wanting this situation handled without identifying yourself as the complainant. Concerns of retaliation are very understandable. Some of us don’t want to be “that person”. We get it. But it’s important to understand that if we write a ticket for peace disturbance (or anything that requires a victim) without a victim or complaining party, the case will not be filed.

We also like to be very transparent with people about court. We have no control over what happens with a case once we send it. But there is a very real possibility that the complainant in a peace disturbance may be subpoenaed to testify in court. We know that may be uncomfortable, so we try to make sure that’s clear from the beginning so no one is surprised.

We will absolutely issue summonses for peace disturbance. However, it does require the active participation from a victim. The officer was correct.

Transportation is a major challenge for some in our community. Please save this information and reach out if it would benefit you or a loved one. We fully support this project and have been involved since its inception.

When we said “go do good”, these folks did exactly that.

With absolutely no regard for budget whatsoever, we introduce our new aerial patrol unit. Our first flight was of course to Quenchers for a round of large Danger Zones (with energy because we’re not savages).

So watch your speed through town. The limit is…..something in knots we’re pretty sure.
