During a recent visit to Aurora Water’s operations in Rocky Ford, the Water Supply and Demand team had the opportunity to learn about the long-term stewardship efforts associated with water rights acquisitions in southeastern Colorado.
The team was able to see firsthand how thousands of acres of formerly irrigated farmland have been successfully restored and managed for more than three decades through Aurora’s revegetation program.
Today, these restored landscapes demonstrate the value of intentional stewardship not only for the land itself, but also for the communities connected to our water resources.
Reflections from the tour: Water Resources assistant, Jessie said, "One of my favorite parts of working in water resources is realizing just how interconnected everything, and everyone, really is. Every piece of Aurora’s past has a story, and today’s tour of our Arkansas river basin was a great reminder that protecting our water future often goes hand-in-hand with restoring and caring for the land.”
