Allisha brings more than 20 years of experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with extensive expertise in residential services, Host Home programs, and community-based supports.

Throughout her career, she has helped individuals with complex needs find safe, supportive homes while building strong relationships with families, providers, and community partners.

Her knowledge, experience, and commitment to person-centered care make her a wonderful addition to the CLA leadership team.

Trying to retire the R-word? There are plenty of better words.

What are you actually trying to say?

Something makes no sense? Ridiculous. Absurd. Illogical.

Someone made a bad decision? Foolish. Careless. Unwise.

Something is frustrating? Annoying. Frustrating. Infuriating.

Something is strange? Bizarre. Odd. Wild.

Something is funny? Hilarious. Silly. Outrageous.

We have thousands of words to choose from. We don't need to use disability as an insult.

Expand your vocabulary. Retire the R-word.

As DSP Recognition Week comes to a close, we’re reminded that the appreciation for our incredible Direct Support Professionals extends far beyond just one week. 💜

One CLASS family shared this beautiful message:

“Every day should be a celebration of DSPs! Dave is Benjamin’s special person—they understand each other. But we are also grateful for Juni, Melanie and Angel, as they make CLASS the special place it is.”

We couldn’t agree more. Our DSPs bring patience, compassion, connection and joy to the people we support every single day—and we are so grateful for all they do.

What is a DSP?

Direct Support Professionals do so much more than provide care. They support, advocate, empower and help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities connect with their communities and live meaningful lives.

At CLA, DSPs are there for the everyday moments that matter — encouraging independence, creating new experiences, building relationships and helping each person pursue what’s important to them.

This DSP Appreciation Week, we celebrate the people who make it all possible. Thank you, CLA DSPs! 💛

Why remove the R-word from our vocabulary completely?

Because casual use keeps it normal.

Every time we use it as a joke or insult, we reinforce the idea that it is an acceptable word to use negatively. And the language adults use becomes the language younger generations hear and learn.

We can interrupt that cycle.

Choose another word.

Don’t normalize it. Retire it.
