What are kids seeing in v**e shops, and what should parents know?

Join the Kane County Health Department for a FREE Youth To***co Prevention Summit on Wednesday, November 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Baker Community Center in St. Charles. We’ll share findings from our review of 58 v**e shops across Kane County and explore what these findings mean for our youth and community.

We’ll also focus on prevention and cessation strategies for ni****ne and v**e use to help support healthier choices in our community. Plus, you’ll hear directly from local youth about what they’re seeing in their community.

Lunch will be provided! Register below to gain valuable insights, learn about prevention and cessation resources, and stay informed about this ever-evolving landscape. We hope to see you there!

Our neighboring DuPage County has reported a new measles case in a vaccinated person who recently traveled internationally.

Although measles can occur in people who are vaccinated, these breakthrough cases are uncommon. The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is highly effective. Two doses are about 97% effective at preventing measles.

Vaccinated people who do get measles may experience milder symptoms and are less likely to develop serious complications than unvaccinated people. However, vaccination does not guarantee that symptoms will be mild in every case.

Protect yourself and your family:
- Check that you and your family are up to date on MMR vaccinations.
- Contact your health care provider if you are unsure of your vaccination status.
- If you develop symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes or a rash after a possible exposure, call your health care provider before visiting a clinic or emergency department.

The MMR vaccine remains our best defense against measles and its complications.

The DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) has confirmed a measles case in a vaccinated DuPage County resident who recently returned from international travel. This is a rare breakthrough infection. While measles after vaccination is uncommon, it can occur when there is intense or prolonged exposure to a person with measles. Even when breakthrough infections occur, there are benefits to vaccination.

A Massachusetts company is issuing a voluntary national recal for nearly 1.6 million pounds of ready-to-eat cooked meat and poultry products because of a storage temperate issue. Kayem Foods, Inc. and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall last week and said the recall was initiated after "a cooling system malfunction at one of [Kayem's] warehouses that resulted in storage temperature deviations."
