The 120th Fighter Squadron, 140th Wing, will conduct nighttime training missions with F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft Oct. 27-Nov. 17, 2026.

This year, the 140th Wing deployed to Kadena Air Force Base for six months, flying hundreds of hours and trained in multiple joint exercises in the Pacific Region, committing to adaptable and lethal war-fighting capabilities.

Retired Brig. Gen. Wayne L. Schultz, who was the commander of the 140th Wing the day of the attacks, said the pilots based at Buckley flew 62 sorties over the 52 hours following the terror attacks.

They were the only planes coming and going out of Denver in the immediate aftermath.

“It was just eerily quiet for those few days,” he said in an interview.

Canadian Gen. Rick Findley was just about to leave Cheyenne Mountain for the night after keeping an eye on an annual Russian exercise in the Arctic when planes hit the World Trade Center towers.  On that chaotic morning, Findley and American Gen. Ed Eberhart faced an unimagined catastrophe together...

State of the Guard 2026

The CONG hosted the second annual State of the Guard, an event for community partners to network and learn about the CONG's legacy, missions, and future.

The event also provided a hands-on opportunity to meet Guardsmen and view and touch the equipment they use in both local and global operations. On display were a UH-60 Blackhawk, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and HIMARS rocket system.

35 years ago today the 140th Wing received their first F-16 Fighting Falcons.

Since 1991, these jets have flown all over the globe including multiple combat deployments during the Global War on Terror. Just this year, our Airmen, many of whom are younger than the aircraft they operate, brought the F-16s on a deployment to the Indo-Pacific theater where they participated in critical training exercises simulating wartime environments.
