Child abuse and neglect prevention isn't about fear. It's about understanding what helps children and families thrive.

Strong relationships. Supportive communities. Access to resources. Caring adults.

When we strengthen the systems around families, we create safer, healthier futures for Colorado's children.

Hello, October. 🍂

A new month is a chance to look ahead — and at The Kempe Foundation, we're looking toward a future where every child has the opportunity to grow up safe, healthy, and supported.

Creating that future takes more than responding to challenges after they happen. It takes prevention, strong families and communities, informed professionals, effective advocacy, and investment in the programs that help children and families thrive.

That's the work we're committed to supporting across Colorado.

This month, we'll be sharing more about the people, programs, and partnerships helping make that vision possible.

**Because every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.**

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Kids Online Safety Stakeholder Forum, co-sponsored by Children’s Hospital Colorado, Healthier Colorado, and the Kempe Foundation.

We brought together leading experts, advocates, and community partners for an important conversation about children’s safety online.

The forum featured a robust panel discussion, along with insights from leading experts Warren Binford and Ed Howard. Together, we examined the Meta settlement and what it means for the evolving landscape of online safety—and the policies, practices, and education needed to better protect children online.

We’re grateful to everyone who helped make this important conversation possible.

A major moment for kids’ online safety.

Meta has agreed to a landmark settlement worth **up to $17.1 billion**, along with significant changes aimed at making Instagram and Facebook safer for young people.

The agreement includes measures like daily scrolling limits, overnight access restrictions, fewer notifications during school hours, and changes to features that can contribute to social comparison.

For Colorado, there’s another important piece: the state is expected to receive nearly **$615 million over nine years** through the settlement.

This is meaningful progress—but it’s not the finish line. Kids use many different platforms, and they deserve age-appropriate protections wherever they spend time online.

Swipe through to learn more about what this settlement means for kids and families—and what comes next.

📱 How can we create a safer digital world for Colorado’s kids?

This fall, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Healthier Colorado, and the Kempe Foundation are bringing together stakeholders for the **Kids Online Safety Stakeholder Forum**—an opportunity to learn, connect, share perspectives, and help shape a vision for the future of kids’ online safety in Colorado.

We’ll hear from experts, explore national policy strategies, discuss shared priorities, and consider potential solutions to better protect children and teens online.

Together, we can help build a safer digital future. 💙

Thank you all who joined at this year’s Inspiring Stories of Hope gala. Because of your generosity and belief in Kempe’s mission, the evening was truly unforgettable.

Together, we raised an incredible $450,000 to support programs that prevent childhood trauma and provide healing for those impacted by abuse and neglect. We couldn't do this without you and your commitment to helping hope continue to bloom.
