Representative Barbara Hernandez East Aurora Born and Raised State Legislator. Office Hours: Open Mon-Thur from 9am-5pm Barbara Hernandez was born and raised in the East Side of Aurora.

Barbara is the first in her family to attend college. She graduated from Waubonsee Community College in 2012, and from Aurora University in 2014 & 2021. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master's in Public Administration from Aurora University. Since she was 14 years old, she has been actively involved in the community and knew she wanted to get involved in politics to fight along with people who could fix the broken immigration system, which her family had a personal connection to. Barbara was elected as the youngest elected official on the Kane County Board in 2016. Currently, she is the youngest Latina State Representative in the Illinois House of Representatives, and she was appointed in 2019.

It’s been a busy and rewarding couple of weeks for our team! Sabrina from my office and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Aura Foundation’s Launch & Learn Community Business & Wellness Expo. Our intern, Ryan, and Sabrina also toured VNA Health Care to learn more about the vital resources they offer our community. Sabrina visited West Aurora High School for their World Language Expo to speak with students about exciting career pathways in government. To wrap things up, my office co-hosted a free flu vaccine clinic to help keep our neighbors healthy this season.

Rep Barbara Hernandez statement:

We’re deeply grateful to the first responders and law enforcement officers who acted so quickly to protect the worshippers at the Hindu temple in Aurora, and to the temple’s security team. We’re especially thankful for the coworker who saw something and said something. That courage and willingness to speak up saved lives.

We’re relieved that everyone is safe, and we stand with the Aurora Hindu community. No one should ever have to fear violence in their place of worship.

Estamos profundamente agradecidos con los equipos de emergencia y los agentes del orden que actuaron con tanta rapidez para proteger a los fieles del templo hindú de Aurora, así como con el equipo de seguridad del templo. Our office is proud to participate in Mutual Ground's annual Take Back the Night event during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. We'll be sharing state and local resources and upcoming events we are participating in, so please stop by and say hi! Listen to guest speakers, walk around to obtain resources, and stay for a while as we march and have a candlelight vigil to stand together with those who have been affected by domestic violence.
