Aurora Fire Department Responds to Two Structure Fires on Consecutive Days
Aurora, IL โ The Aurora Fire Department responded to two separate residential structure fires on October 25 and 26, including a detached garage fire on Gleason Avenue and a second-alarm house fire on New Haven Avenue. In both incidents, firefighters worked quickly to bring both fires under control and limit further damage. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
October 25 โ Structure Fire, 900 block of Gleason Avenue โ 4:44pm.
Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire and arrived to find a detached garage on fire. A total of 13 personnel responded to the scene, including two engine companies, one truck company, one medic unit, and two chief officers. First-arriving crews quickly deployed a hose line and extinguished the fire in less than one minute, preventing it from spreading into the interior of the garage. No one was home at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported. The property remained habitable.
October 26 โ Second-Alarm Structure Fire, 500 block of New Haven Avenue โ 7:46am.
Crews responded to reports of a bathroom fire at a single-story residence and arrived to find smoke coming from the roof and eaves. The incident was upgraded to a second alarm, bringing a total of 24 personnel to the scene, including four engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units, and two chief officers. Firefighters advanced hose lines into the home and located the fire in a bathroom utility closet. Crews brought the fire under control within 11 minutes and conducted extensive overhaul operations to locate and extinguish hidden fire, including smoldering materials around the furnace and chimney chase. All occupants were safely outside the home, and no injuries were reported. Due to fire damage, the residence was deemed uninhabitable, displacing two adults and three children.
โThese incidents demonstrate the importance of a quick, coordinated response in preventing fires from causing even greater damage,โ said Aurora Interim Fire Chief Kevin Nickel. โOur firefighters were able to stop the garage fire before it spread into the garage's interior and worked quickly to locate and extinguish hidden fire at the second incident. Their training and teamwork play a critical role in protecting lives and property throughout our community.โ
The causes of both fires remain under investigation by Aurora Fire Department fire investigators. For additional information, please contact the Aurora Fire Department at (630) 256-4000.
