Through its “Lowe’s Heroes” program, Lowe’s Home Improvement stores encourage employees to complete volunteer projects to benefit their local communities. When a project is approved by the corporation, a team of volunteers is assembled and led by a Pro, with all equipment and materials provided by Lowe’s.

Thanks to this program, residents of and visitors to Dillsboro have been able to enjoy events on “The Porch” at the Dillsboro Arts Friendship Gallery for the past 8 years. For news on events and exhibitions, visit https://dillsboroarts.org/ or https://www.facebook.com/dillsboroarts

Do you know how quicksand works? Here's an answer from World Book! "Quicksand is a soft mass of wet sand that yields easily to pressure. It usually forms on the bottoms of streams and on sand flats along seacoasts. Quicksand behaves like a fluid because water flowing through the sand grains forces them apart and prevents them from settling. In this condition, the sand loses its firmness and cannot support heavy weight. Thick layers of quicksand can trap and even kill people or animals that sink into them. People caught in deep quicksand should fall flat on their back with arms stretched out from the body. In this position, the body should float on the sand. The person should roll slowly off the quicksand to firm ground."
