Update: Why you should file now.
The third round of stimulus checks are still in the process of being approved. You should file your 2020 tax return ASAP to make sure the IRS has your most recent banking, mailing, and dependent information to accurately calculate and distribute your payment once the stimulus is signed into law.

The IRS that tax season will start February 12. As most are excited for the influx of funds in their household, many will be disappointed to learn that most, if not all of that money will go towards taxing their unemployment payments received during the pandemic. Brace yourselves.
The jobless who filed for unemployment could go without a tax refund in 2021 Unemployment benefits are considered taxable income, so people who get them will see lower tax refunds.

The first wave of deposits for the stimulus checks will start arriving Wednesday. The IRS have already alerted banks to confirm accounts. Unfortunately, paper checks are WEEKS away.
