“I once was…” 💬

A natural gas technician. A teacher. An accountant.

This month’s Cultured Pearls conversation takes us into our members’ working lives, one answer at a time.

A job title can open the door to so much more: skills learned, friendships made, and stories worth asking about. ❤️

💬 What was your first job? And did it lead where you expected?

🎬 The movie won six Oscars. But the award in the movie? They made that one up.

On October 13, 1950, All About Eve premiered, bringing Bette Davis, Anne Baxter, and some deliciously sharp elbows to the big screen.

Its fictional Sarah Siddons Award inspired a real theater award in Chicago. Bette Davis eventually received it herself. Talk about a plot twist! 🏆

🎬 Spark Memories Monday – This or That: Screen Queens 👑

Eartha Kitt or Pam Grier? Now that’s a tough choice.

🐈‍⬛ Eartha’s Catwoman brought feline mischief to Batman.
🔥 Pam took center stage in Coffy, Foxy Brown, and Jackie Brown.

Think back to the first time you watched each of them. Was it a Saturday rerun, a trip to the movies, or a film you discovered years later?

Today, we honor the Tonkawa, Kiowa, Comanche, Lipan Apache, Caddo, and Wichita peoples in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

We celebrate their distinct cultures, honor their ancestors, and recognize the generations who continue to carry their languages, knowledge, and traditions forward.

Here in Austin, this day is an invitation to learn more about Indigenous histories and deepen our appreciation for Indigenous communities today.
