Our volunteer Rachel Carnahan-Metzger, a hospital social worker, testified before the Senate Health and Human Services Committee in support of legislation to rein in unfair “facility fees” - extra charges that patients usually have to pay out-of-pocket that help big health care companies bump up their profits.
Studies show that facility fee charges can add up to hundreds of dollars to a patient’s bill - and yet the patient receives no additional service or benefit. Patients shouldn’t be charged additional fees simply because they were treated in a health care setting owned by a hospital.
