Austin Parks and Recreation Department - Seniors

We had a fantastic time hosting our Spring Celebration at the Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center! It was a day filled with laughter, creativity, and—most importantly—connection.

From hands-on art activities and games to exciting prize opportunities, our seniors enjoyed a vibrant afternoon of socializing. We were also proud to host several local organizations and nonprofit groups who joined us to share vital services and resources directly with our community.

Events like these ensure our residents stay active, engaged, and informed. Thank you to all the partners who helped make this celebration a success!

Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center teamed up with SAIVA, the South Asians' International Volunteer Association to decorate tote bags for children in foster care.

In Central Texas, many foster children move homes with only trash bags for their belongings. These hand-designed totes are meant to change that—offering a sense of permanence, dignity, and care. Each bag is a message to a child that they are supported by their Austin community.

Thank you to SAIVA and all our participants for turning an afternoon of art into a lifetime of impact!

Mendez Recreation Center is hosting a canvas painting class, led by Ms.Janett Ledesma, geared for for adults. Participants will follow a step by step guide using acrylic paints to create an art piece. February's canvas will feature a Valentine's love theme.

Class will meet Wednesday afternoons from 1-3pm

• April 1

Participants from the South Austin Senior Activity Center enjoyed a special evening beginning with a formal, catered dinner hosted by the St. David’s Foundation, followed by an unforgettable night at Ballet Austin’s The Nutcracker as part of the Night of the Community event. An evening filled with connection, culture, and celebration—highlighting the power of the arts to bring our community together.

The South Austin Senior Activity Center proudly honored Veterans Day with a heartfelt celebration recognizing the veterans in our community. Supervisor Jason Miller led a meaningful slideshow highlighting veterans from the center, sharing their stories, service, and lasting contributions. It was a powerful moment of gratitude, reflection, and appreciation for those who have served.

Paddles up and smiles all around! Our seniors had a splashing good time kayaking on Town Lake with Camacho Recreation Center. From calm waters to lots of laughter, participants embraced the adventure, tried something new, and enjoyed the great outdoors together. Just another reminder that you’re never too old to make waves and have fun!
