National Correctional Officers Week is observed annually in the United States during the first full week of May. This week-long celebration recognizes the contributions and sacrifices of correctional officers and personnel who work in jails, prisons, and detention centers across the country.

President Ronald Reagan first established National Correctional Officers Week in 1984 to honor the important work of correctional officers and to raise awareness about the challenges they face. Since then, it has been observed annually to show appreciation for the dedication and bravery of these professionals who play a vital role in maintaining public safety and rehabilitating offenders.

All of us at the Texas Commission on Jail Standards would like to thank each and every officer for the job you do.
