June 1 is the start of hurricane season and National Safety Month. TAC Risk Management Pool will be sharing preparation tips and resources all month long.

Today marks the start of both National Safety Month and hurricane season — an important reminder for counties to stay prepared for risks both on the job and in their communities.

Throughout June, we’ll be sharing safety tips, emergency preparedness resources and tools to help counties stay ready before severe weather strikes. Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay safe.

Leadership 254 is designed to advance the skills of county officials to enable them to meet the unique challenges of their duties and to enhance their leadership skills and style. Participants learn to overcome limitations and redefine the possibilities they set for themselves, their courthouse, their county official association and their county constituents.

In Galveston County, leaders are investing in both training and treatment to ensure people receive help, not handcuffs.

“It’ll save you a lot of heartache of having to put people in jail that don’t need to go to jail,” Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullen said. “Instead, get them over to a facility where they can get the help they need.”

Local elected officials from southeast Texas gathered in Beaumont for important discussions about their communities as the Legislature begins work on their interim charges. Congratulations to the Leadership 254 graduating class of 2025-2026!

Twenty-one county officials completed TAC's 14-month leadership development program, which included four in-depth training modules totaling 79 hours of classroom instruction.

“Leadership 254 taught me that leadership isn’t about having all the answers -- it’s about being willing to listen, learn, connect, and better serve Houston County,” said Terri Meadows, Houston County Clerk and Leadership 254 graduate.
