The Railroad Commission of Texas is the oldest regulatory agency in the state It was established in 1891 to regulate the rail industry of the 1800s.
The Railroad Commission of Texas is the oldest regulatory agency in the state and one of the oldest in the country. Since that time the Commission has been given the responsibility for overseeing the activities of many different industries. The Commission considers protection of the environment and preservation of individual property rights to be two of its primary responsibilities. The Commission, through its employees, has a long and proud history of service to both Texas and to the nation.

Last week, our RRC’s Office of Public Engagement (OPE) team traveled to Odessa to attend the Lions Club State Convention and meet with community leaders from across the state.
Our OPE team enjoyed sharing educational materials, such as one-pagers and brochures with club members and everyone who stopped by the booth.

Earlier today, the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) welcomed members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) to RRC headquarters for a discussion on energy regulation.
The delegation included seven elected members of the European Parliament, led by ITRE Chair Borys Budka, along with staff and advisors.
The ITRE is responsible for European Union legislation related to energy, telecommunications and industry and was interested to learn from the Commission’s experience in overseeing one of the world’s most dynamic energy economies.

This week's , we’re highlighting the massive bucket-wheel excavators that powered early lignite mining operations across Texas. ⛏️
These machines removed the overburden to reach the lignite seams beneath.
