The Texas Archery in Schools Program provides International-style target archery training in 4th-12th grade physical education classes.

Joel Janssen hosted a BAI class for staff of the Houston Rodeo and Livestock Show team and some local teachers at The Carriage Archery Club in Houston last weekend. We now have 9 newly minted BAI’s and the Rodeo will be hosting their first dedicated NASP tournament in 2026!

Adam Lewis hosted a BAI for 12 new instructors from 11 different Texas School Districts yesterday! Please welcome all of our newest BAI’s.

Texas Archery Programs held a Basic Archery Instructor Trainer class, followed by a Basic Archery Instructor class, over the past 3 days. 3 new BAIT’s and 11 new BAI’s we certified during these trainings!
It was a great group of instructors and we are excited to see them put their training to work and expand archery across Texas. 🏹

The Austin area schools gathered together yesterday do to recognize their High School All State Team kids as well as recognize several Middle School All City Team archers. These kids where nominated and selected by the coaches from across the city. It was a pleasure to be there and help hand out these awards

Presentation Title: "Where Arrows Meet Impact: Building Community Connections"

Description: Adam Lewis is the North Texas Archery Specialist for TPWD’s Texas Archery Programs. Before joining the team in 2022, Adam was a NASP coach for 8 yrs and his teams won multiple state championships becoming one of the top programs in the nation. Adam contributes a huge majority of his success as a coach to his ability to make connections with his athletes and the community he served in. He is excited to share some of the secrets and insights he learned along the way and help you connect with your athletes and community, in a new and meaningful way.

Presentation Title: "Texas Parks and Wildlife Recreation Grants: Opportunities for Funding Shooting Sport Programs"

Session 2: "Range of Opportunities: Eligibility and Overview of the Target Range Grant"

Description: The Target Range Grant (TRG) awards federal funds for projects that provide recreational access to target ranges for the general public. Archery, air rifle, indoor and outdoor ranges are eligible. New construction, renovation and equipment are eligible. Is your organization, partner organization or project eligible?

Session Title: "Texas Parks and Wildlife Recreation Grants: Opportunities for Funding Shooting Sport Programs"

Session 1: "Targeting Success: Eligibility and Overview of the Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP) Grant". Presented by Jessica Lagalo (Session 2 will be featured tomorrow)

Description: Could your archery program be a good fit for the TPWD CO-OP grant program? This grant provides funding to tax-exempt organizations that want to connect underrepresented audiences with TPWD sites, programs, and staff (including archery!) and can help your program overcome the financial roadblocks of staffing, training, equipment, and transportation. This presentation will also highlight a few current and past grant funded archery projects to help inspire you!

Todays Spotlight: Tyler Baack, Palestine ISD

Presentation: "How to Win Families and Influence Archers: Effective Communication"

Background: Tyler Baack is a 5th Grade Math teacher and Archery Coach with Palestine ISD. He has coached archery for the past six years and was introduced to archery only seven years ago through another coach who needed help running the school's archery program. When he sees the positive impact that archery has on the students and families, it motivates him to continue coaching and see students grow their skills and confidence!

Description: Using strategies once taught by Dale Carnegie (and others), this presentation will equip coaches on how to navigate interpersonal relationships with families and archers. By doing this successfully, coaches can win over the support of an archer's family and help every archer reach their potential.

Presentation: "Building Trust with Athletes, Parents, Community & College Coaches"

Background: Jacob has decades of experience working with volleyball athletes, including not only day-to-day coaching but also travelling with his team for competitions. He will share that experience and help demonstrate that any sport can be a resource to learn how to become a better archery instructor/coach.

Description: Learn how to build meaningful athletic relationships that create trust, connection, and long-term impact. This session will provide practical strategies for strengthening relationships with athletes, parents, communities, and college coaches.
