EMS Explorer Post 247

Come get some hot cocoa at the Explorer Post 247 fundraising booth! Tuesday, December 9th from 4:30 to 8pm we will be set up across from the skating rink to sell some delicious cocoa and fun toppings! ❄️⛸️

This week we had the opportunity to refresh on altered mental status and how to treat patients who are experiencing it!

Last meeting we had a paramedic practitioner come in to teach us about prehospital medicine. Thank you so much ! We also made over 200 Stop The Bleed Kits for our community!

Last week Post247 got to see the special event vehicles and learn more about what the program does , thank you so much for keeping Austin safe !

From being explorers to lead advisors, (J. Malone & M. Malone) have had a wonderful run with the post. They’ve shifted young aspiring medics and medical professional to actively pursuing a career as a medic for the Austin Travis County EMS and more!Post 247 couldn’t have achieved this without both of you. Thank you so much for providing explorers with amazing opportunities, ranging from learning about emergency medicine to making friends with explorers from all over the Austin area, and, most importantly, creating long lasting memories while having tons of fun!

One day, these explorers will return as successful professionals, whether as doctors, medical board directors, chiefs of surgery, paramedics, and more. We will all remember that this program was the starting point of our journeys and that the Malone siblings created this opportunity for all of us. Captain (M. Malone) & C.S. (J. Malone), we look forward to witnessing all your future accomplishments and will be there to support you every step of the way!

As EMS week comes to an end, EMS Post 247 would like to thank for everything they do for our community! A special thank you to our hardworking post advisors and everyone who has taken time out of their busy schedules to help out with the post. Thank you so much for all you do. We wouldn’t have gotten so far without you guys !

Explorers Kian and Lucas recently successfully completed a TECC (Tactical Emergency Casualty Care) course! This 16-hour course included instruction in various topics including hemorrhage control, MARCH assessments, surgical airway control and needle decompression, pediatric patient care, and management of mass-casualty events. A big thank you to the ATCEMS Tactical Team for assisting these Explorers in preparing for this class!

We had an ER doctor come in and talk about his experience going through medical school as well as his path to becoming a doctor. Team work and collaboration is very important to the Post 247 so we had a quick game of jeopardy!

EMS Post247 took a trip to A&M medical school round rock ! Thank you so much to A&M medical school for hosting us and giving us the wonderful opportunity to talk to medical students and tour the campus .

Explorer Clare just completed her first 24 hour ambulance ride out! Great job, Clare!
