Travis County, Texas - Government Welcome to the Official page of Travis County, TX It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area.

Travis County is located in south central Texas astride the Balcones Fault, the boundary between the Edwards Plateau to the west and the Blackland Prairie to the east. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,024,266. The county has gained more than 400,000 residents since 1990. The county is named in honor of William Barret Travis, the commander of the Republic of Texas forces at the Battle of the Alamo. County Seat: Austin

You can safely dispose of pet medications, over-the-counter medications, and prescription medications this Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at any Travis County Constable Precinct.

Tomorrow, October 21, 2026, is an Ozone Action Day, which means ozone (smog) may reach levels 'unhealthy for sensitive groups'.

You can help reduce ozone levels by saving any errands after work for another day this week, biking for any essential trips or using public transit, and reducing your electricity usage. Children, older adults, and folks with pre-existing health conditions should refrain from extended outdoor activity this afternoon as ozone can cause health issues like difficulty breathing and irritation of the airways.
