Last month, mechanical engineering alum Albert Swantner (on right) won a Webby Award for the app Charity Miles, which he helped develop. The app donates to charities for each mile a user walks, runs or bikes.

Billy Wood, the professor leading the Maymester in Germany, sent these photos of the group hiking in the Black Forest near Freiburg, eating at a restaurant in Himmelreich (Heaven) and a visit to Grohe Designs, a company that manufactures top-of-the-line faucets. They also saw the manufacturing plant, but weren't allowed to take pictures. Prof. Wood said that was the best part.

Dr. Donglei Fan's Ph.D. students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, Kwanoh Kim, Jianhe Guo and Xiaobin Xu, have designed smaller, faster more durable nanomotors which may someday be used in medicine at the cellular level for drug delivery and powering nanorobots.
