Here is a photo from the IAFF RTI "Train the Trainer" class being conducted this week in Region 4. The Fulshear-Simonton Fire Department is hosting 25 firefighters from across Regions 4 & 8 for four days as they prepare to teach the RTI classes across the state. This program is funded by the State Legislature and the goal is to have more than 200 instructors across Texas who will deliver the 16 hour RTI program to *ALL* Texas firefighters.
By the end of this week, we will have 113 instructors trained.
Plans are on-going to conduct five more classes before Summer 2027.

Today during the TDEM awards luncheon in Fort Worth, TCFP was recognized as the 2026 Council Agency of the Year for our partnership, and for our efforts to develop the Texas Emergency Manager Certification. TCFP Agency Chief Mike Wisko proudly accepted this award on behalf of the extremely talented ad-hoc curriculum committee and curriculum staff who are finalizing more than a year’s worth of work to create this “one of a kind” certification for Texas.
“TCFP is proud to work with TDEM to improve and enhance emergency management across Texas. A group of extremely talented emergency management professionals have put in countless hours along with TCFP staff to ensure a professional certification curriculum is developed.” (-Mike Wisko)

GET READY FOR JUNE ➡ FIREFIGHTER SAFETY STAND DOWN
The TCFP 🔸Health and Wellness Committee🔸 proudly supports the IAFC Safety Stand Down initiative in June 2026, recognizing it as a vital opportunity to strengthen a culture of safety, health, and operational readiness throughout the fire service. This initiative closely aligns with the Committee’s mission to promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of Texas firefighters through proactive education and meaningful engagement at every level.
By emphasizing training, awareness, and open dialogue, Safety Stand Down advances our shared commitment to prioritizing firefighter wellness—both on and off duty.
The 2026 theme, FITNESS, underscores the importance of total firefighter readiness, with each day dedicated to a different dimension of fitness, including physical conditioning, mental resilience, nutrition, and recovery. These daily focus areas provide departments with practical tools and resources to support their personnel. The theme also aligns closely with the Committee’s ongoing initiatives, including sleep health, nutrition, cardiac health, hormone regulation, physical fitness, mental health, cancer awareness and support, and more.
