Wild Basin Creative Research Center Wild Basin Creative Research Center is a St.

Edward's University off-campus location that includes Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, established in 1976, with almost three miles of hiking trails and 227 acres of protected urban wilderness. Please stay on the trail and follow the "Leave No Trace Seven Principles" during your visit. *Pets, bikes, smoking/fire, weapons, picnics, and collecting are prohibited.* Everything is protected on the preserve.

September 1st officially marks the start of what we like to call “Chainsaw Christmas!” 🎄🪚
It’s that time of the year we can bring the noise back to the preserve after our summer songbirds have migrated south for the winter.
Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve is home to migratory songbirds like the endangered Golden-cheeked warbler, a special Central Texas resident that nests nowhere else in the world! Each spring, these warblers return to the Texas Hill Country to nest, raise their young, and prepare for their migration south to the mountainous regions of Mexico and Central America for the winter.
While they’re here, we limit loud activities, including the use of chainsaws, to minimize disturbance and give our feathered residents a peaceful place to nest and raise their young. 🐣🌿
September 1st marks the beginning of the non-nesting season, which means Preserve Manager Trevor can officially break out the chainsaw and get started on fall land management projects around the preserve!
As part of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP), Wild Basin Creative Research Center helps protect important habitat for the Golden-cheeked warbler and other native species. Sometimes protecting that habitat means keeping things quiet—and sometimes it means bringing out the chainsaw! 😉
