Enjoy this celebration of TPWD Botanist/Plant Ecologist Jason Singhurst by the Native Plant Society of Texas
Discovered Around the Web: Jason Singhurst is not just a botanist, he is a Texas Botanist. He is truly dedicated to his role as steward for our diverse Texas plants.
“So many of our rare and declining plant communities are under threats (such as urban sprawl, land conversion, invasive plants, etc.). My goal is to conserve as many of these special habitats during my career, and giving future generations a chance to appreciate and enjoy the wonderful plant and animal diversity of Texas.”

Additionally, Jason Singhurst along with co-authors Ben Hutchins, and Dr. Walter C. Holm, received the 2016 Donovan Stewart Correll Memorial Award for scientific writing in the field of the native flora of Texas for Identifying Texas Milkweeds. Enjoy a pdf copy at: http://tinyurl.com/IdTXMilkweeds

Say hello to Natasia Moore, the new central Texas urban wildlife biologist!
Hey everyone! I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. My name is Natasia (pronounced like Natasha), and I am the new Urban Wildlife Biologist for the greater Austin area.
My background: I grew up on a small horse ranch here in the Austin area (Round Rock). So I've been around to see how much this area has grown and changed and what challenges we've faced or could face as this area continues to grow.
I received a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management and a Master’s degree in Wildlife and Wildland Science and Management from Texas Tech University. My Master’s thesis focused on the assessment of Golden Eagles in the Southern Great Plains and Trans Pecos. During undergrad, I evaluated trap injury data on lesser prairie-chickens and worked as a field research assistant where I collected and analyzed field data on various avian species, primarily raptors.
After graduating, I moved right back to Austin, because you never can stay away too long, right?! I've worked for two environmental consulting firms where I held the titles of ecologist/environmental scientist, project manager, ecology manager, and environmental planner. Under these roles, I conducted biological and environmental surveys for sensitive species, evaluated habitat, and provided technical assistance to private developers. As an environmental planner, I consulted on urban projects focusing on planning and design, provided technical assistance with public policy, ordinances, city and park master plans, transportation planning, and assisted with stakeholder meetings presenting environmental and community impacts of proposed development projects.
My role as Urban Wildlife Biologist: I am here to help the greater Austin area communities! I am available to help with professional planning, habitat and land management, research, and public outreach associated with wildlife, habitat, and natural resource management. I would love to get involved in research projects, especially those that focus on the ecological effects of urban development, specifically as it relates to raptors and other avian species.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. I am so excited to meet and work with the communities and future collaborators here in the Austin area!!
