We know that increasing food access takes more than providing food today. It also means understanding and addressing the systems that shape opportunities for our neighbors tomorrow.

It was the kick seen around the country for those who follow college football. 🏈

On Saturday, September 12, The University of Texas at Austin freshman Connor Kacena-Merrell made a remarkable field goal kick on ESPN’s College GameDay, winning $1.2 million dollars. In an incredible act of kindness, Kacena-Merrell pledged to donate half of his winnings to charities close to his heart. After seeing that level of generosity, Love Tito's (Tito's Handmade Vodka) then matched the ESPN prize winnings, making possible a total donation of $500,000 to the Central Texas Food Bank, showing their commitment to their community.

“It’s safe to say that I did not have ‘College GameDay field goal kick gifts $500,000 to the Food Bank’ on my bingo card,” said our President and CEO, Sari Vatske. “Connor’s and Love, Tito’s generosity will provide 1.5 million meals for Central Texans facing hunger. We couldn’t be more grateful to Love, Tito's for continuing to invest in the neighbors we serve.”

This was a special moment, showing us the best of the Texas Longhorn spirit of determination, compassion, and community. Thank you, Connor, ESPN, and Love, Tito's.

What a night! 🧡💚

Whataburger brought something special to the Central Texas Food Bank with the first-ever Whatanight – an evening of incredible food, local talent and the community coming together to support of our mission.

Led by Chef Philip Speer, a group of local chefs put their own creative spin on beloved Whataburger classics, bringing a multi-course culinary experience to life.

But this partnership goes well beyond one evening. Since 2013, Whataburger has supported us through fundraising, volunteerism and community engagement, including their annual September buckslip campaign that invites customers to give back with a donation at the register.

For over four decades, we've grown alongside Central Texas. And through every change, our neighbors have always remained at the heart of what we do. 💚

As our communities have grown and needs have evolved, so has our work. Today, we go beyond providing just food. We’re helping neighbors connect with resources, build new skills, and find opportunities for greater stability, while bringing people and organizations together to strengthen the systems that help increase food access.

From our bright trucks and refreshed signs to our new Waco facility and redesigned website, there's a lot that looks different about the Central Texas Food Bank these days. But one thing that hasn't changed? Our commitment to making nutritious food more accessible to our neighbors.

Our refreshed look reflects who we are today and the work we're continuing to build together. And our redesigned website makes it easier to find food and resources, learn about our programs and discover ways to get involved.

We couldn’t think of a better way to close out Hunger Action Month than with people who believe deeply in our mission. 🧡

Last night, supporters gathered in our sold-out “Changing of Seasons” Garden Dinner thanks to the generosity of Contigo Catering who made the evening possible.

Our CEO, Sari Vatske shared information about where our work is headed and, more importantly, why it matters. The need for food assistance in Central Texas is significant, and as our communities grow and evolve, so must our response.

Hunger Action Month may be over, but our commitment to our neighbors continues every day of the year. We’re grateful to have so many of you with us. 🧡
